You can now scan your passport using your Apple or Android smart phones for check-in into international flights, if your carrier is United Airlines. The United Airlines has become the first airline to offer this service.
You will need the United Airlines app installed on your smart phone and start using the online check-in 24 hours before your departure. So when you initiate United Airlines app you will have the option to use your stored passport data or scan your passport using your smartphone camera, something very similar to depositing a check using your phone.
These scanned passport information is subject to verification by Jumio Inc., a credentials management company. After the verification is successful, you can print your boarding passes right from your smart phone.
Scott Wilson, United’s vice president of merchandising and ecommerce said, “The new passport scanning feature saves valuable time and provides customers with more options to control their travel experience.”
